Black History Month 2024 Annual Celebration

"Be Bold, Resilient and Brilliant"

This year, our celebrations took place at the historic Victoria Centre in Gravesend, a venue that has previously welcomed renowned authors and poets such as Benjamin Zephaniah, John Agard, and Lemn Sissay. We were honoured to have The Worshipful Mayor of Gravesham, Daniel Adewale King, who delivered a speech filled with hope, inspiration, and humour.

Detective Chief Superintendent ACC Shaun White and Detective Chief Superintendent and Divisional Commander for North Kent, Angie Chapman, gave insightful presentations on local policing and Kent’s Police Race Action Plan.

The event featured incredible performances by the talented young people from Gifted Young Gravesham at The Gr@nd, and we were entertained by DJ Teown. The delicious Caribbean buffet was provided by Keen Fork of Gravesend, ensuring everyone enjoyed a fantastic Caribbean meal.

We also launched the Gravesham Cultural Arts Network (Gravesham CAN), aimed at supporting, training, and showcasing diverse local creative talent.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an inspiring and entertaining evening.
